Introduction: MODS-UNFPA Summer Seminar on Population

The Summer Seminar on Population was first launched by the East-West Center (EWC) in 1970 and was recognized as a leading seminar series in the field of population studies until 2011. In 2013, the seminar was transferred to the Ministry of Data and Statistics (MODS) of the Republic of Korea, formerly known as KOSTAT. The first KOSTAT Summer Seminar on Population was then held in 2014.

Since 2017, MODS and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have co-hosted the seminar annually to advance population studies and strengthen statistical capacity.

The seminar serves as an international platform for government statisticians, researchers, and population experts to exchange ideas, share research, and deepen their expertise in population-related fields. Over the years, participants from more than 20 countries have taken part in the program.

The 13th MODS-UNFPA Summer Seminar on Population will be held from June 29 to July 16, 2026, featuring the following three workshops:

  • (Workshop 1) How Do We Measure Fertility? Demographic Methods and Approaches
  • (Workshop 2) Analysis of Demographic Data with GIS
  • (Workshop 3) Event History Analysis

※ This year’s program will be conducted in person.
