- In 2017, there were 285,534 deaths, which recorded the highest figure after the beginning of statistical production in 1983.
- Compared to 2016, the death rate of pneumonia increased by 17.3%. In the meantime, the death rate of intentional
self-harm (suicide) showed a 5.0% decrease.
- The death rate for dementia recorded 18.1 deaths in 2017. As for dementia, the death rate of females was
2.4 times higher than that of males.
- Seoul recorded the lowest figure of the age-standardized death rate at 280.7 deaths per 100,000 standard population,
which was followed by Gyeonggi (310.1).
